so if you’d like a letter or postcard from me, leave a comment below — and drop your address on my postable, if i don’t have it yet. i already have a list of my usual suspects, but i’m always up to sending mail to other nice people out there… it’ll be my pleasure! :)

plan secretly and without respite

“You must always have a secret plan. Everything depends on this: it is the only question. So as not to be conquered by the conquered territory in which you lead your life, so as not to feel the horrible weight of inertia wrecking your will and bending you to the ground, so as not to spend a single night more wondering what there is to do or how to connect with your neighbors and countrymen, you must make secret plans without respite. Plan for adventure, plan for pleasure, plan do pandemonium, as you wish; but plan, lay plans constantly.

And when you come to, on the steps of the presidential palace, in the green grass beside the highway, in your cell’s gloomy solitude, your secret plan finished or foiled, ask your comrades, as your cellmates, ask the wind, the waves, the stars, the sea, ask everything that ponders, everything that wanders, everything that sings, everything that stings- ask them what time it is; and your comrades, your cellmates, the wind, the waves, the stars, the sea all will answer: “It is time for a new secret plan. So as not to be the martyred slave of routine, plan adventure, plan pleasure, plan pandemonium, as you wish; but plan, plan secretly and without respite.”

– from one of last week’s listserve emails.

the listserve is one of the best things we’ve discovered this year. it’s just a simple email lottery: every day, one person is selected at random among the subscribers and gets to address the “crowd” per email. the result is random and magical – and once in awhile, really, really good.

(another) month of letters!

tomorrow starts february, which means it’s time for another month of letters! last year i managed about 20 and ended up a bit short… but this year i plan to do better and actually complete the challenge by writing at least one piece of mail every single day.

i really like the way the world slows down when i take the time to write and think things over – which i don’t do often enough these days. it’ll also be the perfect time to catch up with all the holiday letters that have been gathering dust in my desk these past few weeks!

last time, i asked if anyone wanted a letter, and ended up writing a few aerograms and postcards to random readers, which was quite refreshing. so this year, i thought i’d ask again… would you like a letter or postcard from me? if so, feel free to leave your address on my postable! it’ll be my pleasure. :)

new banner!

i’ve had this idea stuck in my head for a while, to make a banner for the blog out of a photomaton strip… and after a few tries it kind of worked, i think!

i like it, it’s a bit heavy compared to the previous one, but very “berlin”. and it’s nice to have something fresh up there for a change! :)

felicidário

(everybody has already mentioned it, but just in case my non-portuguese friends haven’t seen it yet…)

felicidário is an illustrated online calendar with daily definitions of happiness for the 60+… but not only! :)
it’s a fantastic project, filled with delightful drawings by several portuguese illustrators. here are some of my favourites:

5th may: happiness is a kiss

3rd february: happiness is to send a postcard

1st march: happiness is to fly a kite

check out the rest of the year, it’s really charming! i wish they would print it as a desk calendar…
