plastic jesus

“i don’t care if it rains or freezes
as long as i’ve got my plastic jesus
sitting on the dashboard of my car basket of my bike

it comes in colours pink and pleasant
it glows in the dark cause it’s irisdescent
i take it with me whenever i go far

so give me my lady madonna
dressed in rhinestones and sitting on a
pedestal of abalone shells

i’m driving 90 but i’m not scared
cause i’ve got my virgin mary
assuring me that i’ll never go to hell”

plastic jesus, jack johnson cover.

i’m so getting one for my bike, just so that i can sing this song whenever i ride it… i love singing when i’m driving (car or bike). makes me happy!

postcards and lists

lists and postcards

two things i love: postcards and lists. in december, both are used (even) more frequently than usual around here.

the postcards in the photo were courtesy of a drawn.ca coupon for moo. as usual, moo‘s quality is flawless but lately i’ve been a bit disappointed by them. the two orders i made from china were lost and had to be re-sent. and i’m still waiting for a reply to an email sent about… 2 months ago?

(though they did the re-sending rather fast and successfully, i can’t help to still feel a bit sad. i don’t have high expectations for a lot of companies, but some, those which i really like and recommend, i set my standards high. the unanswered email really bugged me, maybe because i answer so many.)

anyway, all of my postcards have designs by the talented blanca gomez. she’s one of the several artists whose work you can choose from when making your cards. they’re so cute that i’ve framed one of them and haven’t had the courage to send any of the others… they’re just sitting on my desk, being pretty. :)

update: moo did answer afterall, but i didn’t get the email they sent.
they got back at me when they read this post, and forwarded that email. had me smiling – blogs matter. :)
note to people out there: don’t send big files through emails, you never know what other people’s email size limits are!

Pela taxa sobre os sacos de plástico

saco1.jpg

sweetness is superficial!

kumquats!

“It is difficult not to love: the kumquat is like a tidy orange. You get the punch of zest and sweetness without a lot of drippy juice.” (from the new york times:)

i had never heard of kumquats before coming to china – and the reason i picked them up in the supermarket was because i mistaken them with little oranges. but as soon as i got home and started pealing one, i knew these little guys were no ordinary citrus.

so i waited for my chinese lesson to ask the teacher about them. it turns out, you can eat just the peal, which is sweet, or eat them whole, by chewing chewing chewing (this instructive video shows how to eat a kumquat).

the inside is unexpectedly tart for those of us expecting mini-oranges (but not too tart), so you really need to chew a bit to get the flavours mixed and get the best combination.

“The size and shape of a large olive, the kumquat is like an orange in reverse, with a sweet skin and tart pulp. So you don’t have to peel the kumquat; you simply eat the entire fruit. Thus its brilliance.”
(from the same article)

indeed!

declutter away!

at the time of the previous implementation of this website, the choice of CMS was motivated by paralel projects envolving joomla… but joomla soon turned out to be a little naughty monster, that i kept trying to tame. our relationship grew in the premisses of tweaks and workarounds, half-working modules and whatnots…

but my patience for such things has run out a long time ago. so today, with p. in charge of the php/mysql migration front and me on the design side, we moved the blog from joomla to wordpress. i would have anticipated lots of problems, but the whole thing went rather smoothly, and the website looks pretty much the same.

to me though, it feels so different! finally i have proper categories, tags, rss feeds that don’t have encoding problems, a spam filter for comments, clean urls, etc etc etc.

horray!

ps – i’m not sure for how long the feeds will hold, so feed readers should update their feed to feed://meiadeleite.com/feed. sorry about that.

ps2 – if you find any problems, let me know :)
