aller welts suppen!

today, there was an awesome soup-festival in our kiez, and we got to try several soups from different countries. the weather was just perfect for soup, coldish and windy, and i wish we had gone hungrier, because the soups were just mouth-watering (and cheap!). i could have eaten a lot more!
iranian carrot-curry soup with walnuts
german pumpkin soup
iraqi yoghurt soup, with bits of carrot, potato and tiny meatballs inside

i hope they repeat the initiative soon! :)

more bits of berlin

this is us

our friend klara was one of the big motivators behind our move to berlin. when she showed us around her adopted city on a cold winter snap 2 years ago, she gushed with enthusiasm and pride – and we knew right then and there that we wanted to live in berlin too, and experience it all.

she’s also a pretty amazing street photographer, and always carries her camera in tow – which is why we don’t even blink anymore when she points her lenses at us! she took these shots of me and the boy on the thai park. they’re not staged, and they don’t show our best sides only, but i really, really like them.

i don’t usually post photos of myself, and always feel a bit self-conscious looking at them… but yeah. i think it’s time to do something about that and step a little bit out of my comfort zone. besides, we have so little photos of ourselves throughout the years… so here they are for posterity. :)

you should definitely check out klara’s street photography blog for more of her neat photos! :)

botanical garden

we’ve been to the botanical gardens twice now, and really enjoyed strolling around the quiet tree-laden paths, just breathing fresh air and forgetting we’re in a big city. there are plants from everywhere and plenty of things to see, even in summer!

this huge white poplar has been around since 1899!

… there’s a huge greenhouse, lakes and sprawling laws, aroma gardens, medicinal gardens, and all kinds of flora and sceneries from specific regions across the world… it’s well worth a visit, with plenty of time and comfy shoes.

the photos were taken with paulo’s canon (my camera has been broken for a while), using a kodak film. i’m not used to either of those, so they look a bit funky…

sherlock screenings on pubs, and truisms on graffiti form – gotta love neukölln!

a postcard to the first person who guesses which german movie the quote on the last photo is from – but no google-cheating! :)
