“It was important to us to have a bright, highlighting color. Not black or white … that would have made the signs disappear,” Steinbrener said. “Aside from the visual impact, we wanted to create a discourse about the environment in the public space, that’s happening now.”
delete! is an instalation by Christoph Steinbrener and Rainer Dempf, on which they, well, “deleted” brands out of the landscape, in Wiener Neubaugasse.
the whole concept sounds… intriguing. we’re just so used to signs, brands and labels everywhere, and in a way, they are part of the urban magic. when i look at the pictures from their instalation, i realize how much “space” (both physical and in terms of atention) these signs occupy on our everyday strolls.

seems fresh, with a certain touch of freedom.

* typetalk: a typeface with speech behaviour. for instance, “sugar and spice” font replaces curse words with nicer ones, and “francophile” font introduces french words into the english speech :)

* design your own revolution (from the hidden persuader)

google-trap: same as malvado’s “cata-corno google”: nonsense and unrelated expressions to catch unaware google users. i’ll let you know how efficient it is at the end of the month. :P

p for press

thanks to the these cute guys :P i got myself in brg2005, a local electronic music and multimedia art festival. small highlights:
* silverio: check out the photos on his website. the energy, the way he spoke with the micro on his mouth, the jumping on the table. crazy and simultaneously very good :)
* pierre bastien: the metallic contraptions man. jazzy, somewhat spooky, the sounds floating out of the mecanos and the toys. there are some mp3’s on his site as well.
* mathmos: i had heard about it, but those lamps are really amazing. the airswitch is my favourite – the glow is so yummy.
* the location sure was a bonus. braga has a gorgeous stadium, carved out of a granite rock.

pub zen

i don’t watch tv or read news much, other than the online stuff, so i still get surprised when i look at some pub on newspapers, when everybody else has seen it already. i don’t know if that’s the case, but check rsf (reporters sans frontières) pub about cuba: “où sont passés les journalistes?” (pdf file).

genious.

* next week there’s brg2005, which is an electronic music and multimedia art festival. it’ll take place right here in braga, inside the new football stadium. check their website for more information on artists, both national & international, and workshops. (and please drop a note on the comments, if you’re considering coming :P)

* this saturday (tomorrow) there’s knitting meetup, again at rota do chá. the place is so perfect, the tea is great, the conversation flows between the needles… we can’t get enough of it, can we girls? :)
