coffee shop shenanigans.
making pho
inspired by lucky peach’s summer issue, i decided to try my hand at pho.
the butcher already saves the marrow bones for me anyway, so it was a matter of procuring the spices and saving up the bones till i had enough for a big pot of the stuff.
that, and patience. the process takes hours of slow simmering, bones in and out in a methodical dance, culminating in the layering of noodles, meat and herbs over the broth.
so was it worth it?
YES! goodness, that little bowl was amazing. i’m used to slow-cooking broth, but the spices, ginger and fish sauce really took it to a whole different level.
the dishes though…
rathernice
feeling grateful for one of the sweetest chrome extensions out there. a bit of cheering up goes a long way in these dark times.
october was quite homely and had a bit of everything: rain and sun, close and faraway friends, good meals (homemade pho and green curry!) and even a visit to our local waste treatment facility on their open day!
the highlight of the month was our yearly return to bielefeld and to the land of gorgeous autumn for a few days. this is our 7th year going — which seems unbelievable, but so nice. once a year, we come together with these friends in a little house in the woods to catch up, walk and write some postcards together. we see them so infrequently, and yet, every time we come together it’s as if we never left.
i want more of these moments.
