our part-time cat
because he’s been showing up quite a bit on the latest videos, a few of you asked whether we had a cat. the answer is… sort of! he’s not ours, but he visits often, while going about his business in the neighbourhood.
he’s a stray cat (afaik), with easy purrs and a penchant for cuddles. we call him zorelha (zarolho + orelha), because of the funny cut he has on one of his ears (a sign he’s been sterilised and released).
he’s friendly and comes and goes as he pleases, and that’s fine with us! :)
the eve online monument
wandering around reykjavik’s harbour back in march, we stumbled on this quirky trio of pillars…
… which looked like a vaguely familiar monument for something i had read about… and then it hit me: it was the eve online monument! i remembered having checked it out on atlas obscura when researching the trip, so we did a double take when i recognised it. i’ve never played the game, but the fact that a real stone and aluminium pedestal exists to play homage an online game developed in reykjavik is pretty cool!
a nice touch: on the base of the monument, names of thousands of active characters (from 2014) are written, forever immortalised in metal. the makers of the game even made a tool to help people find their own.
neat! :)
and since we’re at it, here’s may:
in may, we had my parents staying over for a week, and then quietly settled back into our normal routine. we worked, exercised, hiked, did some ISS-spotting at night, and dusted off the raclette set for some cheese-heavy meals with friends on the last cool days of the season. all in all, a pretty good month!
