self portrait tuesday… and wipha.

i love threadless. they’re a company that works with user-generated content at its best, while giving a good part of their profit back to the community that makes them successful. sounds like a recipe to success to me.

still doubtful? let’s see. you submit a design and win a couple thousand bucks if it gets selected (by the users) to be printed, plus several bonus. if you’re not a designer, you can still buy a tshirt, submit a photo of it and get $1.5 worth of discounts. or if your picture is really good, $15! how cool is that?

to tell the truth, i think the average picture that users upload isn’t exactly “gallery-material”, and anyone can do a far better job with a little imagination. sooooo, right after we bought the camera, i kept bugging p. to take pictures of our tshirts, and guess what, so far, with 2 pictures taken, i’m stocking $16.5 in discounts! i’d say it’s well worth the shot, even if you’re a little camera-shy!

oh! btw, they’ve just opened their shop in chicago, and i heard it has some cool features. besides being a perfectly good example of how an online business can break boundaries and stretch towards the real world.

i would tell you more about it, but a (recently upgraded) super-typhoon is scheduled to hit shanghai this evening and i’m super-excited and semi-worried and i can’t think of anything else. our first typhoon. some 200k people have been evacuated and let’s hope i remember to park the bike indoors. basements are spooky. i tend to avoid them.

shoes and breakfast

the breakfast and shoes projects are two similar photographic essays. they both aim to capture the details of strangers by sharing their photo, along with what they have for breakfast, and what they wear on their feet.
the result is a colorful mesh of portraits and a precious insight into anonymous lifes, both well worth the visits.

kniiiiiiiiiiit!

the downside of moving to other countries is the things we have to leave behind. (if i were in charge, there would be a special travelling discount for people moving to new places, as well as ilimited luggage allowance. *humpf* )

but since i’m not in charge (yet!), some of my favourite things are still in portugal – like my negatives, books, crayons, stamps*… and knitting needles. in a lucky quirk of fate though, i found a great place here to buy them: arlyna’s closet. arlyna, together with her husband, own a very nice design company here in shanghai and in her spare time, she does all sorts of crafty things, which she sells in her shop. my favourite are the bamboo knitting needles, but there are also stitch markers, pouches, bags, etc.
give it a look!

also, check out these knit night cupcakes, from vegan yum yum. aren’t they just soooo irresistably cute? :D

* i took care of the stamps part today, in a local stationery shop. less than an euro for the full alphabet, numbers and a stamp pad. :)

you know love
causes such misery and pain
i guess i’ll never be the same
since i fell for you

oh i guess i’ll never see the light
i get the blues most everynight
since i felt for you

“I used to know this girl named Suzy Montelongo. And her brother’s name was Joe Montelongo. Joe always wanted to kill me. He sang in a band called the Rodbenders. Suzy Montelongo used to wear these angora sweaters. I’m crazy about angora sweaters. I guess it’s kind of a hang-up of mine. She had angora socks, and angora shoes. I believe she was originally *from* Angora. I don’t know where she is anymore, but every time I see an angora sweater, I think, maybe, *inside* will be Suzy Montelongo. Eh-he-he…”

boulder -> portugal -> china -> portugal

because i’m too anxious to talk about a certain apartment that may or may not be our next home (and for which i have a serious case of love at first sight), i’m going to digress and link an interview on público about (my) crocs. i’ve been a happy crocs‘s walker for a year now, and i cannot recommend them enough :)
