hobonichi 2023

new year, new hobonichi! this year, my friend jifeng (who always offers me one planner every christmas) picked a one-piece themed techo weeks for me, and even though i’ve never read the manga or seen the anime, the cute little embroideries just make me happy.

plus, this year is the first time ever that i have an hobo in english! the planner is easy enough to navigate even if one doesn’t speak japanese, but the novelty of actually being able to read it is something else. the quotes are inspiring and sometimes delightfully quirky!

i’ve copied some bullet journalers from instagram and decided to do a little habit planner on the free pages at the end.

ahah, looking at it, i need to make time for the back exercises, and also to go back to the swimming pool, once my ear unclogs and goes back to normal… 😅

stitched postcards

like anyone with a sewing machine these days, i’ve put mine to use sewing some masks that we can take on our visits to the supermarket. and then one thing led to another, and i’ve made a few stitched postcards as well, using leftover fabric and watercolor postcards for backing.

i was having fun trying out all the cool stitches that the machine can make… until i finally broke the needle. oops! :/

field notes

i always have a small notebook on my bag. it’s handy for lists, notes of random things we see or hear, stuff we need to remember or to jot down impromptu flying lessons. these get filled and replaced rather quickly… but luckily there’s never shortage of small notebooks around the house. from tombola gifts to conventions’ goodie bags, they have a tendency to pile up faster than we can use them, so i have absolutely no excuse to buy them.

but that doesn’t mean i don’t get super excited when people gift them to me, which was the case of these field notes that i received from my friend addis last year! they’re some of the sturdiest little notebooks we’ve ever had, and a pleasure to write on. not too big, not too small, smooth paper and tough covers that can take the constant jostling of a bag that at any moment contains at least 2 cameras.

the first finished one took quite a beating, but somehow the weathered look only makes it more beautiful. i’m a fan!

my favourite icelandic stamps

i’m writing a post featuring all the nice things we ate in iceland… but in the meantime, here are some of their beautiful stamps:

icelandicfoodstamps

the one about the volcano actually has ash embedded inside… but my favourite ones are definitely the ones in the center — a food landscape on a stamp, with an egg yolk as the sun! <3

this sheet was actually a gift from the lovely people at icelandic post, who we met to talk about postcrossing. we were chatting about stamps and at some point i gushed about this one and complained about how tricky it was proving to find in normal post offices… so they promptly picked up a sheet for us. how nice is that?! :D
