sir nicholas winton
on the same day the postcrossing stamp was launched, czech post also launched a stamp to honour nicholas winton. sir winton is known as the british schindler, for having saved over 600 jewish children at risk from the nazis in 1938, by resettling them with british families.
it’s not lost on me, the irony of celebrating a man who gave all these children a second chance at life, while we close borders and stop others from coming in. who will we be celebrating, 50 years from now?

the czech postcrossing stamp
we were in prague at the beginning of the month for the czech postcrossing stamp launch. this was a very special stamp for us: for the first time ever, we were given free reign to design something from scratch — no questions asked. of course, with it came a huge responsibility… how do you convey the idea of postcrossing on such a tiny rectangle?!
well, the task to translate postcrossing into images fell on the shoulders of our friend maria, and she more than delivered!
we’re so pleased and proud of how this one turned out! the concept is there, perfectly illustrated: writing, sending and receivng… a never-ending flow of postcards, connecting the world from hand to hand! :)

august was the first month we stayed put, without any major trips. hurray!
that doesn’t mean we got bored — far from it! we had lots of visitors, friends and family alike, who kept us company and helped explore the nearby beaches and towns. i also got my shiny new library card, and the boy kept running and preparing for the upcoming berlin marathon. only 2 weeks to go now! :)
